SUMMARY:Three Stand-Alone Poetry Workshops: The "Dark Basket of a Blank Page"
DESCRIPTION:“The unknown is the dark basket into which we plunge our hands to bring out words that feed the hungry and clothe the poor—as good a definition of poetry as we might find.”\n-David Whyte\nTo read a poem\, we face an unknown: what is this poet saying?  To write a poem\, we face a blank page: what do I have to say?  How will I say it?  While at times the unknown can be exciting\, often it is terrifying\, and it keeps us from doing the creative work we want to do.  In these three\, stand-alone workshops\, we will: \n• Practice how to read poetry more adeptly.\n• Enjoy the conversations that open up between poems and our fellow workshop participants.\n• Hone our own poetic craft through drafting a new poem in each session.\n• Leave with prompts for further independent writing and suggestions for revisions. \nAll levels of writing experience are welcome.  Suitable for participants 16 years and older. \nThursday JANUARY 22nd: 7:00 – 8:30PM\nThe “Dark Basket” of Winter: Poems for long nights and cold days \nInstructor: Sarah Crowley Chestnut \nTickets\, per class\nNon-members $30\nMembers $25 \nNot already a Member?
