About the instructor: Jan Karmen is a retired high school teacher who taught creative writing, English literature, and journalism at Wayland High School for many years. During that time, she advised the slam poetry group at the high school as well as the student-run website WSPN. she has also I taught a creative writing course for adults of all ability levels through the Southborough Public Library. She has edited a number of books — children’s lit, young adult, and non-fiction — as well as innumerable college and private high school admissions essays. I also have volunteered as an elementary student tutor. She has participated for many years in both ongoing poetry workshops and small writing groups. She’s had a number of poems published including two poems that were chosen for the Southborough Art on the Trails exhibitions.
